Cutting-edge technology

Founded in 1965, the company Fazendas Reunidas Vale do Juliana (FRVJ), is an agribusiness enterprise that is located in the Southern Bahia Valley, Northeastern Brazil, in the environmental protection area of Pratigi.

The company has always been concerned with the quality of its products and invested in cacao cultivation. In 1993, it created an “Agricultural Modernization Program” with the major goal of realizing the full genetic potential of the modernization of the plantation system. This goal has been reached largely due to an innovative cloning technique that, within the span of five years, has substituted practices in all the former cultivation area and lead to high productivity. In 2005, seeking to reach 2250 kg per hectare productivity each year, the farm FRVJ initiated a recloning program which uses an even more advanced genetic material. This technological advancement was launched alongside another development: product tracking, which tracks the production process from the beginning through its ultimate delivery to the customer. With this new technique, FRVJ became a pioneer in cacao commercial cloning and is currently situated as one of the five major cacao producers in Brazil.

Promoting the local sustainable development

The Tecnologia Empresarial Odebrecht (TEO), an entrepreneurial technology created by Norberto Odebrecht, seeks to transform the old plantation system, inherited from the Brazilian colonial period, into a new system of agricultural enterprise. It joins together the ideas and values of social justice, productivity and environmental preservation to promote local sustainable development.
